Sister province since: November 2, 2021

As the second largest economy of Pakistan and the center of Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry, Sindh is located in the southeast of Pakistan, bordering India to the east and the Arabian Sea to the south. It covers an area of 140,900 square kilometers and has a population of 47.9 million. Sindh’s economy relies heavily on agriculture, supplemented by industries including textile, cement, machinery, shipbuilding and steel. Sindh’s cement output accounts for 60% of the country’s total.

Relations with Hubei

The friendly exchanges between Hubei and Sindh began in 2009. In January 2009, the Chief Minister of Sindh accompanied former President Asif Ali Zardari to Hubei and attended China Hubei-Pakistan Agriculture and Water Resources Cooperation Forum. The two sides signed a memorandum of friendly exchanges, which showed both sides’ willingness to develop sister city relations.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, Hubei has gone all out to help Pakistani citizens in Hubei and worked together with the Pakistan government during the difficult time. Hubei sent medical teams to Pakistan to support its Covid-19 response, which was highly praised by local people from all walks of life and added new dynamism to the all-weather strategic partnership between China and Pakistan. Hubei also received letters of appreciation from the Pakistani Ambassador to China. Navigating the impact of Covid-19, Hubei spared no effort in helping Pakistani citizens and enterprises in Hubei to resume work and production.

In 2021, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, Hubei and Sindh built a China-Pakistan Friendship Square in their respective capitals, Wuhan and Karachi, as a token of their friendship.
