The exchange meeting between Hubei Province and Biobío Region of Chile was held online on the morning of October 27, with a view to strengthening friendship and practical cooperation between the two sister provinces. Government, academic and business representatives from both sides attended this event.

Director-General Zhang Xiaomei pointed out that Chile was the first country in Latin America to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. She said that the friendly exchanges between Hubei and Biobío dated back more than two decades and the two sides have since had fruitful cooperation in agriculture, education and culture. As China has now embarked on a new journey to a modern socialist country in all respects and Chile is striving to become the first advanced economy in Latin America, the two sides should fully tap into the potential and opportunities of the bilateral relations. She added that the Hubei-Biobío exchange and cooperation action plan 2022-2024 should be implemented so that both sides could gain from improved relations.

Iván Valenzuela, director of development and industries of the Biobío Regional Government, briefed participants on Biobío’s agriculture, industries and service sector. He noted that the twinning of the two places has offered an opportunity to strengthen the relations. He expressed hope for further cooperation between the two sides and the possibility to set up a Hubei industrial park in Biobío.
