As of November 1, 2020, the permanent population in Hubei province has reached 57,752,557 people, an increase of 0.9 percent compared to the previous census in 2010, according to a press conference held on May 26, 2021.
In line with the results of the 7th National Census, Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, has a permanent population of 12.3265 million; Huanggang, Xiangyang and Jingzhou have a population of 5 to 10 million; 11 cities have a population of 1 to 5 million.
Of the total population, people aged 0 to 14, 15 to 59, 60 and above represent respectively 16.31 percent, 63.26 percent and 20.42 percent; people aged 65 and above account for 14.59 percent.
The education level of the inhabitants has been continuing to rise. Number of people who received or are receiving university-level education has reached 8.9525 million, 15.5 percent of the total population.
