The Shijiahe site, located in Tianmen, Hubei Province, were selected among the top six archaeological discoveries of China in 2016 at an archaeological forum held in Beijing on January 10, 2017.
The Shijiahe site is the largest neolithic complex found in the middle reach area of the Yangtze River. From 2015 to 2016, three new sites were excavated, namely Yinxintai, Tanjialing and Sanfangwan.
The ancient city ruins of Tanjialing, dating back to 5300 years ago, is considered to be the largest prehistoric city in China, while the Yinxintai site is considered to be the largest prehistoric prehistoric ritual site in the middle reach area of Yangtze River. The jadewares whose manufacturing technologies represent the highest level in prehistoric China or even East Asia in were unearthed from the Tanjialing site.
