Overview
The city of Osijek is the biggest economic and cultural center of eastern Croatia. It is also the fourth largest city in Croatia. The city sits on the right bank of river Drava and is known for its landmark tourist attractions such as the historic city town Tvrđa, the promenade along the riverbank and the parish church of St. Peter and Paul.
Relations with Huanggang
In May 2016, Huanggang established contact with Osijek.
In October 2016, the Huanggang municipal government delegation visited Osijek, during which the two cities reached an intention to establish sister relations.
In September 2017, the two cities signed a letter of intent to establish a friendship city relationship.
In October 2017, the city of Osijek officially replied to Huanggang city, expressing its readiness to set up sister relations with Huanggang and invited the leaders of the latter to visit Osijek.
In October 2018, a delegation of three people from Osijek municipal government visited Huanggang and signed an official sister city agreement.
In May 2019, Osijek held an exhibition in the International Friendship City Pavilion of the first Dabie Mountain World Tourism Expo in Huanggang.
In February 2020, the mayor of Osijek sent a message of sysmapthy to express his concern for the people of the sister city and his support for Huanggang’s fight against Covid-19.
In April 2020, the city of Osijek turned its landmark buildings into Chinese red to support Huanggang’s fight against the pandemic.
In May 2020, Huanggang Photography Association was invited to participate online in the photography exhibition in Osijek.
In September 2020, the two sides held an online exchange event.
In December 2020, Qiu Lixin, then mayor of Huanggang City, sent a congratulatory video for the Osijek City Celebration Day event.
In 2021, Osijek City sent a congratulatory letter to party secretary Zhang Jiasheng and mayor Li Junjie on their new appointments.
