Sister city since: June 2016
Overview
The city of Veresegyhaz is about 30 km from Budapest, the capital of Hungary. It is under the jurisdiction of Pest Megye and has a population of 18,000. Its residents are mostly from Budapest and are well educated intellectuals in the financial and banking sector and academia. Their per capita income ranks among the top 5 in Hungary. The city has a good industrial foundation, with two major international companies investing here, plus more than 1,800 small and medium-sized businesses. The spa industry is the second biggest pillar of the city’s economy.
Relations with Xianning
In October 2013, Ren Zhenhe, then secretary of the CPC Xianning Committee, visited Hungary, during which Xianning and Veresegyhaz signed theMemorandum on Sister City Exchanges and Cooperation.
In May 2015, Bela Pasztor, Mayor of Veresegyhaz, led a delegation to Xianning and had in-depth discussions on the establishment of a sister city relationship.
During then Mayor Ding Xiaoqiang’s delegation visit to Veresegyhaz in June 2016, the two sides concluded theSister City Agreement.
The years between 2016 and 2019 have witnessed frequent delegation visits between Xinning and Veresegyhaz.
Mr. Olah Lajos, a member of Hungarian Parliament, and Bela Pasztor, Mayor of Veresegyhaz, sent letters of sympathy to Xianning in early February 2020 after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. In April Xianning donated 20,000 medical masks in return as a show of support.
In June 2022, the Gyor Government of Hungary invited Hubei Province and Henan Province to jointly organize the Chinese-Hungarian Drawing Competition. Xianning and Veresegyhaz organized students to participate in the competition and students from Xianning won the first prize and the choice award.
