Overview
The Kannaland Municipality was created in 2000, with the merger of the former local authorities of Ladismith, Calitzdorp, Zoar and Van Wyksdorp. The city is located between the Swartberge and Anysberg Mountains, about 3 hours’ drive from Cape Town, with an area of 4,758 km². Kannaland Municipality has a pleasant climate and is positioned as an agricultural city. It is an important producer of fruits, wine, and dairy products in South Africa. Renowned Parmalat and Ladismith cheeses are produced here. It is also one of the world’s top wine and brandy producers.
Relations with Huanggang
In October 2013, at the invitation of the Kannaland Municipal Government, Liu Xuerong, then secretary of the CPC Huanggang Municipal Committee, led a government delegation to South Africa. During the visit, the two sides signed a letter of intent to establish a sister relationship and held an economic and trade promotion conference.
In April 2014, Kannaland City Hall sent a letter to affirm their willingness to promote exchanges and cooperation in agriculture, agricultural product processing, tourism, and other fields at an early date.
Huanggang and Kannaland became sister cities in October 2014.
