Overview

Located in the southern part of the Italian Peninsula, Campania is at the southern foot of the Apennine and borders the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its territory covers an area of 13,600 square kilometers, ranking 12th in Italy. According to statistics in 2019, the region has a population of 5.79 million, ranking second in the country. Agriculture plays a very important role in Campania. Major crop producing areas are gathered in the coastal plains as the mountainous inland is subject to water shortages. Its capital city is Naples (alternatively called Napoli).
