Overview
Located in Indiana in midwestern United States, Columbus covers an area of about 74 square kilometers and has a population of about 50,000. The city is strong in higher education and has an advanced manufacturing industry. With a favorable geographical location, it is the regional sea-land-air transportation hub and is a regional center for business, education, shopping, and health care services. It was once rated as one of the 100 best cities to live and do business in the United States.
Relations with Xiangyang
In October 2009, a business delegation from Xiangyang visited Columbus. The two sides reached consensus on establishing friendly relations and vowed to make this tie stronger.
In October 2010, then mayor and speaker of Columbus led a delegation to Xiangyang. During their stay, they had in-depth discussions on further cooperation in economy and trade, investment, tourism, auto parts production, new energy vehicles, urban construction and management, and signed a letter of intent between Xiangyang and Columbus to establish sister city relations.
In September 2011, the two cities officially signed an agreement on establishing sister-city relations at the United States Week in Wuhan.
On June 19, 2016, mayor of Columbus appointed Guan Ruihan, a Chinese student ambassador studying in the United States, to visit Xiangyang. This visit helped further deepen the mutual understanding, promote the friendship and exchanges between the peoples.
At the beginning of 2021, Jim Lienhoop, current mayor of Columbus sent a greeting card to the leaders of Xiangyang on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the city to congratulate them on the New Year.
