Overview

Imus, officially known as the City of Imus, is the de jure capital of the province of Cavite, with a population of over 400,000. Imus is located 20 kilometers south of Metro Manila, covering a land total area of 64.7 square kilometers. Imus was the site of two major Katipunero victories during the Philippine Revolution against Spain, where the first Philippine flag was flown making Imus the “Flag Capital of the Philippines”.

Relations with Huanggang

In November 2010, with the help of Mr. Carlos Chan, chairman of Qishi Group and special envoy of the President of the Philippines, the Huanggang Municipal Government delegation visited Imus City and signed an intent on establishing a sister city relationship with Imus City.

In May 2011, Homer, then mayor of Imus, paid a friendly visit to Huanggang, and signed an official agreement on establishing a sister city relationship between the two cities.

In February 2012, Liu Xuerong, then mayor of Huanggang City, led a delegation to Imus City, during which he signed theMemorandum of Further Strengthening the Friendly Cooperation and Exchanges between Huanggang City, China and Imus City, Philippines. Huanggang Polytechnic College and the Philippines Cavite Provincial University signed theAgreement on Establishing Long-Term Inter-University Partnership.

In September 2014, then mayor of Imus Mr. Maliksi led a delegation of 18 city councilors to visit Huanggang city, accompanied by Mr. Carlos Chan. During the visit, Liu Xuerong, then Secretary of the CPC Huanggang Municipal Committee, met with the delegation. Then mayor Ms. Chen Anli and then mayor Maliksi signed theMemorandum of Understanding on Strengthening Exchanges and Cooperation between Huanggang City andImusCity.

From February to April 2015, the first series of youth exchange activities between the two cities were held with a success in Huanggang and Imus.

In October 2015, Ms. Chen Shaomin, then deputy mayor of Huanggang led a delegation to the Philippines and attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Imus Polytechnic College project.

From February to May 2016, the second series of youth exchange activities between the two cities were held in Huanggang and Imus.

From February to April 2017, the third series of youth exchange activities between the two cities were held in Huanggang and Imus. Youth exchanges between the two cities became a routine. 

In July 2017, then mayor of Imus, Maliksi, led a delegation to Huanggang, during which he signed a memorandum on strengthening educational, economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation.

From February to May 2018, the fourth series of youth exchange activities between the two cities were held in Huanggang and Imus.

In September 2019, Mr. Michelle, dean of Imus Polytechnical College, visited Huanggang and signed a cooperation agreement with Huanggang Polytechnical College.

In October 2019, the fifth youth exchange group was invited to Macheng City to participate in the Imus-Huanggang youth exchange activity.

In 2020, Imus City sent Huanggang a letter of sympathy and expressed willingness to aid in Huanggang’s fight against Covid-19.

In 2021, Imus City sent a congratulatory letter to party secretary Zhang Jiasheng and mayor Li Junjie on their new appointments. A letter of thanks was sent to the former party secretary Mr. Liu Xuerong for his strong support to the friendship between the two cities during his term.

In July 2022, Imus City invited Huanggang to watch the Wagayway Festival (Flag Flying Festival) celebration online and sent gifts.

In August 2022, Huanggang Municipal Government sent a letter to Advincula to congratulate his election as the new mayor of Imus, and thanked Maliksi for his strong support for the friendship between the two cities during his term.
