Overview
Piaseczno, with 90,000 inhabitants, is located in the Warsaw Metropolitan Area in the Masovia Province. It is about 23 km from Warsaw, capital of Poland, and only 15 km from Frederic Chopin International Airport. Piaseczno is one of the oldest areas in the Mazowsze region. The city covers an area of 12,823 hectares and consists of one town and 40 villages. The city has a smooth transportation system underpinned by its favorable geographical location, rail, and highway networks.
Relations with Huanggang
Huanggang and Piaseczno came into contact in 2009 and concluded an official sister city agreement in June 2010 during then mayor Liu Xuerong’s delegation visit to Piaseczno.
Cooperation between the two sides mainly focuses on art and culture. In May 2011, Huanggang sent a cultural delegation to Piaseczno to promote cultural exchanges and do performances. In September 2012, Piaseczno sent a Polish band to perform at the opening ceremony of the Third Huanggang Dongpo Cultural Festival. In May 2013, a cultural delegation of 23 performers went to Piaseczno to bring Huangmei Opera culture one step closer to the world.
In April 2014, Gao Yingtao, then vice mayor of Huanggang, led a delegation to Piaseczno for a friendly visit.
In March 2015, a delegation from the city council of Piaseczno visited Huanggang and the two cities signed a memorandum to further strengthen cooperation and exchanges. The delegation also had a discussion with the Municipal People’s Congress and planted the city’ first “friendship tree” in Yi’ai Lake Park.
In May 2015, Huanggang sent a sports delegation to compete at the Sports Championships in Poland. This was the first sports exchange between the two cities. The Huanggang delegation achieved good results and came home with one gold, two silver, and seven bronze medals.
In September 2016, a delegation of five from the municipal government of Piaseczno visited Huanggang and had friendly discussions on the future growth of the two cities.
In October 2016, Huanggang sent a delegation to the Kite Culture Festival held in Poland.
In August 2017, Huanggang city delegation visited Poland to promote Huanggang’s policy on attracting talents.
In September 2017, the Piaseczno cultural delegation came to Huanggang to further exchanges and put on performances.
In June 2018, Mr. Zesino Rees, then mayor of Piaseczno, led a delegation of 6 people from the municipal government to visit Huanggang city.
In September 2020, Piaseczno and Huanggang held an online exchange event.
