Overview
Gaza is known as the granary of Mozambique for its large-scale production of cereals and grains grown on the Limpopo Valley. Famous tourist attractions are Bilene Beach and Banhine National Park.
Relations with Hubei
In September 2005, then Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng led a delegation to four countries in Africa. During this visit, Hubei and Mozambique showed their intent to strengthen cooperation in agriculture.
In June 2006, Su Xiaoyun, then Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department visited Mozambique. Gaza government offered 1,000 hectares of land to Hubei, which was expected to be built into a demo farmland and give a boost to local agricultural production. Gaza and Hubei signed a letter of intent for establishing sister province relations.
In April 2007, Hubei-Gaza Friendship Farmland was founded in Gaza. Thanks to this project, the Ministries of Commerce and Agriculture decided to authorize Hubei to build the demonstration center of Chinese agricultural technology in Mozambique which was unveiled by then Chinese President Hu Jintao.
In October 2008, then Party Secretary Luo Qingquan visited Mozambique with his business delegation. He signed the agreement on establishing sister province relations with Governor of Gaza.
The cooperation with a focus on agriculture between the two provinces have yielded remarkable results. In July 2011, the demonstration center of Chinese agricultural technology was officially handed over to Mozambique.
In July 2017, Mozambique-China Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center was recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as the first batch of overseas pilot projects for agricultural cooperation. This project is considered as a fine example of China-Africa agricultural cooperation.
