Overview
Borlänge is a borough of Dalarna province in central Sweden, with an area of 586 square kilometers and a population of about 50,000. Borlänge has a 500-year history of making iron and is still Scandinavia’s largest producer of flat steel. The city enjoys beautiful landscapes and rich tourism resources, with active economic activities, well-developed science and technology industries, as well as sound educational and social welfare systems.
Relations with Wuhan
Since the then Mayor of Borlänge visited Wuhan in 1999, the two cities have witnessed increasing reciprocal visits and deepening friendly exchanges in the fields of economy, culture, environmental protection, and education. In 2000, the two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation to carry out friendly cooperation. At the same time, Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone and Borlänge Technology Industrial Park also signed a memorandum of friendly exchanges.
Wuhan and Borlänge became sister cities in 2007. Since then, the two sides have maintained fruitful visits and exchanges in various fields. Officials of the Swedish International Development Authority (SIDA) have praised the partnership between Wuhan and Borlänge as a fine example of China-Sweden exchange, and the most vibrant, outstanding, and effective sister city relationship between the two countries.
