Overview
Saxony is located in eastern Germany, with Dresden as its capital. It covers an area of 18,341 square kilometers and has a population of 4.3 million.
Relations with Hubei
In October 2013, Hubei Liaison Office for Economic Cooperation with Saxony was established.
In November 2017, Stanislaw Tillich, the Minister President of Saxony, visited Hubei Province and attended the celebrations of the 10th Anniversary of Hubei-Saxony Friendly Relations. Governor Wang Xiaodong of Hubei met with Stanislaw Tillich. They held talks on deepening the friendly cooperation between the two sides.
When Hubei was hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic back in 2020, Wu Ken, the Chinese Ambassador to Germany, visited Saxony and highlighted the friendship between Hubei and Saxony in the pandemic. He argued that the high-standard sister province/state relationship added to the all-round strategic partnership between China and Germany.
On December 10, 2020, Governor Wang Xiaodong of Hubei held online talks with Michael Kretschmer, Minister President of Saxony, in which they reached an agreement on the roadmap of cooperation in high-tech industries including medicine and public health.
On January 27, 2022, the Saxony Trade & Invest visited Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone, where they identified areas of cooperation among Wuhan Mengxin Technology, Welltrans O&E and IPMS. Relevant companies agreed to discuss future business cooperation through videoconferencing. On April 14, Fraunhofer Beijing Office, Hubei Liaison Office for Economic Cooperation with Saxony, and Hubei FAO jointly held the Fraunhofer International Innovation Forum.
