Overview

Saratov Oblast is located in the lower reaches of Volga River in Russia. It covers an area of 101,200 square kilometers and has a population of 2.46 million (as of 2018). The state was established in 1934 and its capital is Saratov City. Major industries in the region are metal processing, petroleum processing, chemical industry, wood processing, light industry, and food industry.

Relations with Hubei

In May 2018, the International Seminar on the Belt and Road Initiative in Hubei was held. The Seminar was hosted by Hubei Provincial People’s Government and jointly organized by the Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Hubei Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, Wuhan University and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Hubei Sub-council. The seminar was attended by Deputy Governor of Saratov Oblast and nearly 30 representatives from governments, the chambers of commerce, academic communities and industrial parks of Brest, Saratov Oblast and North Kazakhstan.

In August 2021, Hubei Province and Saratov Oblast held a promotion conference via video link. At the conference, officials from Saratov Oblast introduced the economic developments and comparative advantages of their region and elaborated on their key industries and the preferential policies for enterprises in the special economic park.

The general manager of Saratov Oblast development group said that they would provide enterprises with consulting services, and their goal is to turn the park into a pacesetter for the regional cooperation between the Yangtze River and Volga River. The enterprises of Hubei Province, such as Sinopec Oilfield Equipment Corporation, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company, HGLASER and J. S. Machine, all had brief introductions of their latest business developments and plans in Russia. The general manager of the special economic park said that they would establish closer connections with enterprises in Hubei province, and help the enterprises seek partners in Saratov Oblast.
