Overview
Rio Grande do Sul is situated in the south of Brazil, with an area of 280,000 square kilometers and a population of 10.5 million. Porto Alegre, the capital, is the largest inland port and a trade center in Brazil. The state enjoys developed agriculture and animal husbandry. Its main industries include petrochemicals, food processing, leather, tobacco, and machinery manufacturing.
Relations with Hubei
The friendly exchanges between Hubei and Rio Grande do Sul began in 1992. Since the establishment of sister relations in 2001, both sides sent delegations frequently and held many economic and trade seminars.
In 2006, Hubei and Rio Grande do Sul signed a memorandum on friendly cooperation. The government of Rio Grande do Sul held a grand banquet to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the establishment of sister relations.
In 2020, when Brazil was hit by Covid-19, Hubei held an online meeting to share the pandemic prevention and control experience. Hubei donated 10,000 surgical masks and 2,000 N95 masks to Rio Grande do Sul.
