Overview
Arnhem is the capital of Gelderland province in the Netherlands, with an area of 102 square kilometers and an urban population of about 164,000. It is located at the intersection of the Rhine and Ussel rivers near Germany. Arnhem belongs to the Arnhem-Nijmegen metropolitan area which has 736,500 residents. Arnhem is a bustling modern city full of art and culture and is surrounded by greenery. It is the fashion capital of Europe and attracts a large number of tourists every year. The city is home to the first public hydrogen filling station and is the only city with environmentally friendly trolleybuses in the Netherlands.
Relations with Wuhan
High-level visits.On November 14, 2017, Mayor Ahmed Marcouch led a delegation of 16 to Wuhan and participated in the investment promotion event of Fortune 500 and world-renowned international companies. On June 11, 2019, a delegation of Wuhan visited Arnhem for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of sister city relations, and signed theMOU on Trade, Economics and Agricultural Development Cooperation between Wuhan, China and Arnhem, Netherlands.
Hydrogen energy.On November 16, 2018, the Director of Arnhem Foreign Affairs Office visited Wuhan Municipal Economic and Information Bureau to discuss the possibilities of cooperation in hydrogen energy and fuel cell vehicle industries.
Transportation and logistics.On April 11, 2019, to promote the international transportation and logistics cooperation between the Netherlands and Wuhan under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, Ms. Lidewijde Ongering, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, led a delegation of 32 representatives from government and railway logistics enterprises to Wuhan and attended the Wuhan-Netherlands Railway Logistics Seminar.
Culture.From November 21 to 26, 2017, the third Dutch Days kicked off in Wuhan. Main activities included the Dutch Waterfront City Design and Planning Exhibition, Forum on Urban Design and Public Life, International Forum on the Planning of Changjiang New Town, and an art exhibition.
Water affairs.On June 5, 2019, to promote exchanges of water affairs between Wuhan and the Netherlands and strengthen technical cooperation in pipeline sealing and repair, four representatives from Trelleborg Pipe Seals and the Netherlands Business Support Office in Wuhan visited Wuhan Water Affairs Group Co., Ltd. to discuss cooperation possibilities.
