Overview
Győr is the capital of Győr-Moson-Sopron megye (county) in northwestern Hungary, with a population of 130,000 and an area of 175 square kilometers. It is the sixth largest city and one of the seven regional centers in the country. Győr is also an important historical and cultural city. Every year, the city hosts several festivals such as Győr International Kids Games and Győr International Book Exhibition.
Relations with Wuhan
Since Wuhan and Győr became sister cities, they have maintained frequent visits and carried out positive and pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in Covid-19 response, business, youth exchanges, culture, and sports.
In 2015 and 2017, high school students from Győr participated in the Wuhan International Friendship Cities Youth Summer Camp.
In 2017 and 2018, two business matchmaking events were held to promote closer links among enterprises from the two cities.
In 2017, a delegation of Wuhan was invited to visit Győr for the 2017 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival.
In 2018 and 2019, Wuhan sent students at Hong Ling Jin Primary school and Yucai No.2 Primary school to participate in the Győr International Kids Games.
From 2012 to 2021, Wuhan has participated in Győr International Book Exhibition by sending delegations or mailing books. Friendship between the two cities has been deepened through the shared love of reading.
In 2020, the two cities donated anti-epidemic supplies to each other.
In 2020, Győr recorded a video of a local band for the nineth Qintai Music Festival.
