Overview

Söderhamn was established as a city in 1620. It is in Gavleborg Province in eastern Sweden, bordering the Baltic Sea, the west side of Bottenhavet on the east, and the port of Gavle on the south. It has a population of about 30,000 and an area of 1,000 square kilometers.

Relations with Yichang

The friendly exchanges between Yichang and Söderhamn began in 1992. The sister city agreement was formally concluded in 1994. Cooperation mainly focuses on economy, trade, education, youth exchanges, and art.

In terms of economic and trade cooperation, in December 1994, a Yichang delegation went to Söderhamn to discuss trade projects. In March 1995, a joint venture started business operation in Söderhamn. In September 1995 and November 1996, two Yichang delegations visited Söderhamn to discuss potential projects.

The youth exchange between the two cities began in 1996. Since then, more than 10 delegations of teachers, students or artists have been sent to each other.
