Overview

Brest is one of the six oblasts in Belarus, located in the southwest of the country. It covers an area of about 33,000 square kilometers and a population of about 1.34 million (as of 2021). The capital city is Brest. The largest train wheel change station in Eurasian Land Bridge is located in Brest. About 80% of the goods exported by land from CIS countries to Western European countries transit here.

Relations with Hubei

In May 2018, the Deputy Governor of Brest and representatives from the Ministry of Economy and the media visited Hubei Province and attended an international seminar on the Belt and Road Initiative. In the seminar, the governor introduced the investment potential and priority projects of Brest and held one-on-one talks with the enterprises in Hubei Province.

From June 13 to 20, 2019, at the invitation of the Brest Government, Wang Lishan, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee, led a delegation to Belarus.

On May 20, 2022, Hubei and Brest held a video conference. At the conference, on behalf of both governments, Vice Governor Zhao Haishan of Hubei and Vice Governor Gorodetsky of Brest, signed2022-2024 Cooperation Roadmap for Friendly Province Relations. In the future, Hubei Province will focus on economic and trade cooperation and cultural and educational exchanges with Brest, hoping to deepen the cooperation in the fields of logistics, trade, science and education.

Belarus is rich in quality agricultural products. In 2016, Wuhan Asia-Europe Logistics worked with Belarusian dairy enterprises based on thorough market research and feasibility study. They introduced high-quality dairy products from big dairy factories such as Minsk No.1 Dairy Factory to major supermarkets in Hubei province and beyond, delivering benefits of the Belt and Road Initiative to the public. Up to now, 42 large cabinets weighed more than 900 tons of dairy products have been imported. The trade volume has reached RMB 4.08 million.

At present, sister city relations have been formed between Xiaogan and Brest, Chibi and Baranovichi, Shiyan and Baranovichi, and Xiangyang and Pinsk.
