Overview
Metz is in the northeastern part of France. The Moselle River traverses the city. It is the capital of Lorraine Region as well as the capital of the Moselle Province. It has a population of about 280,000 and an area of 42 square kilometers. Adjacent to Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium, it is an important transportation hub to Western Europe. Metz has a long history, with historical buildings such as Opéra-théâtre de Metz (the oldest theater in France) and La Cathédrale Saint-Étienne de Metz. The city’s education is well-developed as represented by University of Metz. Its main industries are electrical manufacturing, plastic products, shoemaking, furniture, and food industry.
Relations with Yichang
The two cities established a sister city relationship in 1991. The Mayor of Metz visited Yichang twice, and delegation from Yichang visited and held discussions in Metz. In addition, the Speaker of the Lorraine Region and the Vice-President of the Parliament also visited Yichang to promote exchanges between the two cities.
